Strawberry Season

Strawberry Season

Winter has finally come to a close here in Florida and our early year crops are starting to appear. One of our neighboring counties is known for their strawberries and the markets are filled with them.

I’m a little embarrassed to say but I bought four baskets of strawberries. I missed the season last year and wasn’t able to buy them in bulk. Today, I bought 8 gallons of strawberries for $14.

While fermentation is more my flavor on this blog, I wanted to share some shameless pictures of the strawberries. These berries were sold as jam berries and we’re at the peak of ripeness.

Strawberries always have marked the beginning of summer for me. In Minnesota, we usually don’t see watermelon or strawberries until June. Florida obviously starts a little sooner.

Due to their ripeness, I decided to freeze the majority of the strawberries. I’ve kept about a gallon in the fridge and I ate quite a bit as I was plucking stems. Anyways, here’s a few pictures.
